Production Horticulture Emphasis

  • The production horticulture emphasis concentrates on crops produced in greenhouses or nurseries and is designed to prepare students for real world production.
  • Hands-on practical growing experience in the production courses, such as plant propagation, identification or herbaceous plants, cultivation of indoor and outdoor plants and floral design.
  • Practical growing facility patterned after industry provides real-life growing environment for production classes.
  • In greenhouse production courses, students produce crops that are sold to industry businesses.
  • Floral design students, together with the Horticulture Club act as the on-campus florist for major events, providing real-life challenges and design opportunities. Team work and accountability result in beautiful plants that are sold on campus by the Horticulture Club.

  • Collaboration with the UMC grounds manager provides an opportunity for students to grow the bedding plants used on the beautiful UMC campus.
