  • Students come from a wide variety of backgrounds and experiences and have many horticultural career options. Your classmates are a mix of traditional college students and returning students who may be preparing for a career change or want to further develop their horticultural interest. You will develop technical, scientific, educational, management, research, leadership, and interpersonal skills to succeed in your chosen fields.

  • UMC students can easily double major in two or more options in Horticulture or pair up with Golf and Turf Management.
  • Learn how to build, create and maintain landscapes through hands on projects located right on campus.
  • UMC combines a solid foundation of applied science courses with practical mechanical and technical expertise. We blend in a strong business operations and management background and interpersonal communication skills for a well-balanced horticultural science program. Production Horticulture Building & Greenhouses

Production Horticulture Building

This facility is used as a production horticulture lab modeled directly after those within the horticulture industry. UMC horticulture students gain direct experience with the culture, care, and growth of commercial horticulture crops here.

 

The Production Horticulture Facility features four "hoop houses"(providing a controlled growth environment for plants) connected by a "head house" featuring a work area, soil and transplant area, and storage for tools and supplies. The combined facility is used as a production horticulture lab modeled directly after those within the horticulture industry. UMC horticulture students gain direct experience with the culture, care, and growth of commercial horticulture crops here.

Horticulture Club
The UMC Horticulture Club actively participates in conferences, nursery seminars, entrepreneurial, and community projects. Members grow and sell seasonal plants in addition to original floral designs and participate in annual pesticide and tree inspector recertification training seminars. Field trips include:
