U of M, Crookston 2012 Commencement
The University of Minnesota, Crookston 2012 Commencement photo gallery is available online. This gallery includes the pre-commencement reception, ceremony, and post-ceremony on the Campus Mall. This class marks the 104th graduating class since the very first in 1909, the 45th graduating class as an institution of higher learning, and the 19th graduating class as a baccalaureate university. Congratulations Class of 2012!

Retirement Reception for Chancellor Charles H. Casey and Barbara J. Muesing, June 14
Celebrate the leadership and retirement of Chancellor Charles H. Casey and First Lady Barbara J. Muesing on Thursday, June 14, 2012. A reception, open ot the public, will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Northern Lights Lounge, Sargeant Student Center, on the University of Minnesota, Crookston campus.
2012 NWSA Reunion is June 30
It's time to crack open the Aggie yearbooks and remember all the great times! The Northwest School of Agriculture (NWSA) Reunion is Saturday, June 30, 2012. There will be opportunities to reconnect over refreshments, enjoy walking and bus tours of campus, honor fellow alumni at the Top Aggie luncheon, meet with classmates, feast at the barbecue supper, reminisce with NWSA alums, and dance the night away to music from the 40s, 50s, and 60s.
"A Summer Place," the theme for the reunion, honors the classes of '32, '37, '42, '47, '52, '57, '62, and '67, but we don't care what class you are from, you are welcome to the campus of the University of Minnesota, Crookston, because it is your summer place!
The 2012 Top Aggies are Helen (Rasmussen) Tangen '41, Mark Chisholm '52, and Richard Olson '62.

Get in the Swing with Summer Golf Tournaments
Playing golf while supporting scholarships for student-athletes at the U of M, Crookston is a great way to enjoy an afternoon on the course. Get a team together and plan on participating in a series of golf tournaments planned for summer 2012 and sponsored by Teambackers.
Anyone interested in playing should contact Bill Tyrrell, director of athletic fundraising, at 218-281-8436 or 701-740-5278 (btyrrell@umn.edu) for details. The schedule for the golf tournaments is as follows:
- Mark Olsonawski Scholarship Golf Tournament, Thursday, June 28, 10 a.m., Two River Club, Hallock, Minn., $40, four-person teams
- Heart of the Valley/Teambacker Golf Tournament, Thursday, July 12, 1 p.m., Heart of the Valley Golf Course, Ada, Minn., $40, five-person teams
- U of M, Crookston Teambacker Golf Classic, Saturday, July 21, 10 a.m., Minakwa Golf Course, Crookston, Minn., $95, five-person teams

2012 Homecoming is Sept. 21-22

The U of M, Crookston will celebrate Homecoming on Friday and Saturday, September 21-22, 2012. Events include volleyball and the Outstanding Alumni & Athletic Hall of Fame Banquet on Friday, where we'll honor Outstanding Alumni Kirk Schultz '79, Doreen Roy '81, and Gerald Landby '82. Athletic Hall of Fame inductees include Craig Talberg ex. '91 and Ryan Driedger '97.
On Saturday there's a photo booth, parade, soccer, tailgating, post-game social, volleyball, and alumni/student dance.

Save the Date: Former NBA Player Chris Herren to Speak Oct. 17, 2012
Former NBA player Chris Herren, subject of the Emmy-nominated ESPN documentary, "Unguarded," will share his story on Wed., October 17, 2012, at the University of Minnesota, Crookston. Herren will speak at 7 p.m. in Lysaker Gymnasium about his basketball career, his struggle with addiction, and his life off the court. | more
Ground Breaking Held for New Residence Hall
A ground breaking ceremony was hald for the construction of a new $9,800,000 residence hall at the U of M, Crookston on May 2. The residence hall will be located west of Evergreen Hall and adjacent to Parking Lot E.
The 43,043 square foot, two-story building will house 145 students in 35 two-bedroom suites furnished with a study room and bathroom facilities--approximately 700 square feet per suite. Public areas will include kitchenettes, study rooms, game room, fitness/exercise areas, and laundry rooms. | more
Faculty Staff Day Celebration
The annual Faculty and Staff Day Program was held May 8 at the U of M, Crookston. Faculty and staff from all units across campus attended the luncheon and program that followed.
Kenneth Johnson, MBA, instructor, Business Department, was presented with the Distinguished Teaching Award. Donna Larson '01 , accountant, Business Affairs Office, received the Distinguished Civil Service/Bargaining Unit Award. Two individuals received the Distinguished Professional & Administrative Award: Melissa Dingmann, MEd, director, Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships, and Kenneth Bulie, JD, CPA, lecturer, Business Department.
The Outstanding Service Learning Faculty Award was presented to ADawn Melbye '03, MEd, instructor, Agriculture and Natural Resources Department, and the Outstanding Community Service Award went to Jamie Fagerholt, tutor and testing coordinator, Academic Assistance Center. Rachel Lundbohm, MBA, instructor, Business Department, was recognized for her Presidents Civic Engagement Stewardship Award from the Minnesota Campus Compact. Jim Schaar, MDiv, lecturer, Liberal Arts and Education Department, was recognized with the Support Award for Students with Disabilities.
Chancellor Charles H. Casey and Albert Sims, director of operations at the Northwest Research and Outreach Center recognized faculty and staff for their years of service. Dale Kopecky, farm foreman at the Northwest Research and Outreach Center was recognized for 40 years of service. Paul Aakre '70, assistant professor in the Agricultural and Natural Resources Department; Susan Brorson, professor and head of the Business Department; Tom Feiro '75 & '96, environmental health and safety specialist; Krista Proulx '75, library assistant; John Schleicher '76, building and grounds worker; and Deb Zak, campus regional director for Extension were all honored for their 35 years of service. Recognition was also given for 25, 20, 15, and 10 years of service. | more

Student Achievement Recognized during Annual Awards Program
The annual Student Awards Program, a night celebrating student service and achievement, was held April 19 at the U of M, Crookston. Associate Professor Kevin Thompson, who teaches in the Liberal Arts and Education Department, was the 2011 Outstanding Educator and hosted the recognition event. | more
From among the the many student achievement awards, two students were selected as the "Man and Woman of the year," the year's top academic, service, and leadership. Honors for 2012 go to Man of the Year Austin Czichotzki, a senior from Barnesville, Minn., majoring in communication, and Woman of the Year Kristine Neu, a senior from Pelican Rapids, Minn., and a double major in horticulture and communication. | more
