Chris Vito enters his third season as Head Baseball Coach at the University of Minnesota, Crookston. The 2009 Golden Eagles finished with an overall record of 7-42 and 3-29 mark in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC). U of M, Crookston took major steps forward in their rebuilding process. Included in the 2009 season were victories over St. Cloud State University and Southwest Minnesota State University, both of whom were ranked in the country at the time.

“We had some nice wins last season and were more competitive,” says Coach Vito. “Our goal remains the same. We want to get better with each game. I will be looking to our upperclassmen for strong leadership and to our younger players for immediate contributions.”

Coach Vito came to U of M, Crookston from Mesabi Range Community and Technical College in Virginia, Minn. where he served as assistant coach in 2007. Coach Vito helped guide the Norse to a 25-12 overall record as well as third place finishes in the Minnesota Community College Conference State Tournament and Region XIII Tournament.
A native of Eveleth, Minn. and a 1991 graduate of Eveleth-Gilbert High School, Coach Vito coached at the University of Wisconsin-Superior from the fall of 1999 until the spring of 2006. He served as head baseball coach his last three seasons. He also taught in the UW-Superior Health and Human Performance Department from 2000-2007 and served as Sports Information Director from 2000-2004. Prior to that, Coach Vito was a graduate assistant baseball coach under Dr. Mitch McLeod at North Dakota State University in Fargo, N.D. from 1997 to 1999. He also served as an administrative assistant within the NDSU Athletic Department.

Coach Vito also coached in Hibbing, Minn. for seven seasons where he served as an assistant with the high school, American Legion, and VFW Baseball programs. He also coached VFW and American Legion Baseball in Mountain Iron, Minn. and Babe Ruth and VFW Baseball in Eveleth, Minn.

Coach Vito had the privilege of guiding a team of collegiate athletes in Europe for USA Athletes International from July 19-27, 2009. The team went 5-1in Amsterdam, Belgium and France including a second place finish at the prestigious Rouen 76 Tournament in Rouen, France. He also served on the sports information staff at the 2009 American Legion World Series in Fargo, N.D.

A 1991 graduate of Eveleth-Gilbert High School, Coach Vito received an Associate of Arts Degree from Mesabi Range Community and Technical College in Virginia, Minn. in 1993 and a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Physical Education from Minnesota State University - Moorhead in 1995. He received a Master's of Education Degree with an Athletic Administration Emphasis from North Dakota State University in 1999.
In addition to coaching baseball at U of M, Crookston, Vito serves as Assistant Sports Information Director. He resides in Crookston.
