Update - October 16, 2006
Representatives from University administration and University Education Association met via ITV this afternoon. Management offered proposals regarding employment continuation, financial stringency and fiscal emergency, student evaluation of teaching, discipline, and grievance procedures. In addition Management offered a letter to the UEA clarifying Management’s earlier proposal regarding family and personal leaves with pay requests. UEA submitted sections of the Duluth contract as counter proposals regarding post tenure review, academic freedom, parental leave, and faculty promotion and tenure process. UEA withdrew earlier proposals submitted regarding nepotism, harassment, and non-discrimination. UEA did not agree with management’s proposals on sick, medical and disability leave, and annual review of probationary faculty.
Both sides submitted agenda items for the next in-person negotiation session which will occur on the Crookston campus on October 20th and 21st. The next session will attempt to negotiate specific language on workload and protocols and other challenging issues.
