News and information regarding negotiations between the University of Minnesota and the University Education Association-Crookston

Information Update - August 25, 2005

Contract negotiations between the University of Minnesota and the University Education Association, Crookston continued. The management negotiation team submitted proposals regarding fringe benefits and teaching evaluations and asked for clarification of the union’s perspectives regarding proposals management had previously submitted. The union negotiation team submitted proposals regarding discrimination, sexual harassment and nepotism. The teams reached agreement on various contract terms, including introductions, titles, eligibility requirements for early separation and phased retirement, liability and campus mail service.
During the afternoon the union negotiation team took the position that the provisions of the existing UEA Duluth Contract automatically apply to the Crookston faculty.

The employer believes that the parties are obligated to negotiate a contract containing the terms and conditions of employment for the Crookston faculty. These terms and conditions may be the same as or different from the terms and conditions contained in the current contract covering the Duluth faculty, which was negotiated by the Duluth faculty and the University without Crookston’s participation.

Both teams agreed to caucus for the duration of the day to carefully consider this new development.

It was agreed that a joint meeting will continue on August 26th at 11:00 am.

The University of Minnesota , Crookston (UMC) is one of four campuses in the University of Minnesota land grant system.  UMC is a coordinate campus that provides a unique approach through applied and polytechnic baccalaureate education, research, and service.
