Agriculture and Natural Resources Department

Nine-month Teaching Specialist or Lecturer position (classification is dependent upon academic degree earned) within the Agriculture and Natural Resources Department at the Crookston campus of the University of Minnesota beginning August 17, 2015. Salary will be dependent on qualifications and level of experience. A competitive fringe benefits package is offered.
RESPONSIBILITIES: (1) Provide program leadership to the established aviation program which combines agriculture, natural resources, and law enforcement with aviation. Provide support to existing programs in natural resources aviation, agricultural aviation, and natural resources law enforcement. (2) Deliver flight instruction and teach aviation academic courses such as, but not limited to: introduction to aviation, airplane aerodynamics, aircraft systems, basic attitude instrument flying, IFR procedures and policies, conventional aircraft operations, certified flight instructor, instrument certified flight instructor, conservation law enforcement, natural resources and law enforcement aviation applications, and agricultural application. (3) Advise undergraduate students in aviation programs. (4) Develop working relationships with agencies and organizations to assist with internship and permanent job placement. (5) Work collaboratively with an interdisciplinary faculty whose focus is on the practical application of knowledge and technology.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: B. S. plus 18 relevant graduate credits in an aviation related field, natural resource-related field, criminal justice, biology, or law degree; FAA certified flight instructor (CFI) certificate and instrument instructor rating for single engine airplanes; experience as aviator in agricultural application, natural resources, conservation law enforcement, general law enforcement, or substantial experience as Pilot in Command of Conventional Gear aircraft; strong communication skills; ability to relate complex concepts to diverse audiences and commitment to a polytechnic educational philosophy within the scope of the land grant mission. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: M.S. or Ph.D. in a field related to natural resources, aviation, or agriculture; experience as a flight instructor or agency pilot; and teaching experience at the college level or in comparable extension, continuing education, or agency capacity; substantial experience with flight instruction in Conventional Gear aircraft.

Math, Science, and Technology Department

POSITION: Two full-time, nine-month, annual renewable lecturer positions in Software Engineering in the Math, Science, and Technology Department at the Crookston campus of the University of Minnesota starting August 17, 2015.  Standard teaching load is 15 credits/5 courses per semester. A competitive fringe benefits package is offered.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Deliver high-quality undergraduate instruction to students in the Software Engineering B.S. program, the Information Technology Management B.S. program, and in the Health Informatics Certificate programs.  Course topics include, but are not limited to, Data Warehousing and Mining, Database Management Systems, Programming, Discrete Structures, Software Construction, Software Design and Architecture, and Software Requirements Analysis.  It is vital that the candidate participate in efforts to achieve and maintain ABET accreditation as well as support efforts to create and maintain international collaborations.  The candidate is expected to contribute to further develop current and future programs; advise students; engage in department and campus service activities; participate in recruitment and retention efforts; and help expand our network with the industry to benefit our programs, student experience, and student employment opportunities.  The candidate should be open to teach both on campus and online courses.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  Master’s degree in software engineering, computer science or related field (or a master’s degree, plus a minimum of 18 graduate credits in software engineering, computer science or related field); passion for teaching and student-centered service; ability to relate complex concepts to diverse audiences; effective communication skills; and commitment to an experiential educational philosophy within the scope of the land-grant mission.  Final job offer contingent upon complete background check and receipt of official transcripts.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Doctorate in software engineering, computer science or related field; experience/track record of seeking and successful implementing externally funded projects and grants, ABET experience, experience with online education, and experience with scientific modeling, simulation and visualization.
