TEACHING SPECIALIST AND ONLINE STUDENT SUPPORT (Classification # 9754)
POSITION: Full-time, 12-month, annual renewable position starting December 1, 2009 or as soon as possible thereafter.
JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for managing, advising and evaluating online business coursework and students; teaching course; work with procedures/systems to serve online students & faculty; develop and analyze quality management and administrative planning/peer reviews; provide exceptional communication, instruction & support for instructors and online students; provide leadership & support for technology enhanced learning, online staffing, organization and department functions; this includes but isn’t limited to pre advising, registration, instruction, evaluation of programming, development of online course materials, coordinating participation and organization of faculty in programs.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Program administrative services responsibilities: Work with online student support services for the University of Minnesota, Crookston's online degrees collaborating with Academic Departments and the Center for Adult Learning; advise potential & current distance students with transcript evaluation, assist online and distance students on career questions, placement & program planning; and maintain high quality customer service and response time; provide an orientation to the online environment and protocols for online students. (45%). Advising and leadership responsibilities: Coordinate participation and organization of faculty in online course quality program/peer review; teach online classes (3 to 8 credits per semester) as needed, provide leadership & support for technology enhanced learning; manage administrative planning and department policies; and maintain effective communication with online and distance students. (50%). Administrative responsibilities: Work with Academic Departments, the Center for Adult Learning and the University of Minnesota’s Digital Campus to assist with online recruitment; design and integration of e-communication tools; and opportunities for online enrollment growth. (5%)
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Earned Master’s degree in business, marketing, entrepreneurship, technology, or related field; one year teaching, advising, program development/implementation, recruiting, marketing, or coordinating experience at an institution of higher education; and ability to read, write, and understand English.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Earned Doctorate degree in business, marketing, entrepreneurship, technology, or related field; two or more years professional experience in online courseware development and customer relationship management; record of effective teaching at the university level and proficient in the use of computer technology; demonstrated excellent communication skills with exceptional customer service and ability to relate complex concepts to diverse audiences; experience with instructional technology methods, applications and course management systems; administrative, management, and/or supervisory experience in an academic setting; demonstrated excellent communication skills with exceptional customer service and demonstrated understanding of and commitment to a applied education within the land grant mission and philosophy.

QUALIFICATIONS: A terminal degree in the discipline or
related area and substantial professional recognition in the field
is preferred. A Master’s degree or 18 graduate credits in
the discipline or a related area and competence to teach the material
of the specific course is required. In special circumstances,
for particular courses, an individual with a baccalaureate degree
and experience and competence to teach the course may be hired.
