Sophomore Elizabeth Kern Represents Steele County in Princess Kay Competition

Crookston, Minn. (April 21, 2008) – Elizabeth Kern, a sophomore at the University of Minnesota, Crookston from Owatonna, Minn., will compete for Princess Kay of Milky Way. Kern, a communications major with concentrations in dairy and marketing, was one of three young women chosen to vie for the title and represent Steele County.

Five women competed in a series of skills including a 10-minute interview, a 3-4 minute speech and participation in a group discussion. The three winners will attend the 2008 Dairy Princess Promotion Training and Selection Event; a seminar designed to provide them with dairy promotion information, ideas and life skills to help them in their role now and in the future. During the weekend event, held at the College of St. Benedict in St. Joseph, Minn., twelve finalists will be selected to advance to the competition in August. Kern lives on a dairy farm south of Owatonna where her family milks 50 registered Holstein cows. She is active in Dairy Club; Alpha Lambda Delta, the honor society for students; and will serve as a student marshal during commencement exercises on May 3, 2008.
