U of M, Crookston Appoints Andrew Svec as New Director of Communications, Public Relations and Marketing

the new director of communications, public relations and marketing at the University of Minnesota, Crookston is also a welcome back. Svec will bring his experience with the Crookston campus, understanding of the University system, proven track record as an effective marketer and his collaboration and organizational skills to help the campus continue to build on its exceptional faculty and staff.

“Andrew Svec has the experience with our campus and with the University of Minnesota system to help us continue to build on our momentum,” said U of M, Crookston Chancellor Charles H. Casey. “His leadership and growth over the last few years have given him an opportunity to develop and prepared him well to take on the important role of communications and marketing for the Crookston Campus. I am pleased that he will be a part of our administrative team as we continue to move forward.”

Svec, who begins his new appointment on June 12, 2008, previously worked at the U of M, Crookston for 14 years through 2004, most recently as the director of communications. His experience since that time includes serving as director of marketing for the Washington Pavilion of Arts and Science in Sioux Falls, S.D., and as assistant to the executive director of the Community Surface Dynamics Modeling System (CSDMS), a scientific cooperative agreement project with the National Science Foundation at the University of Colorado at Boulder.

A graduate of the University of Minnesota, Morris, Svec’s experience includes developing comprehensive marketing plans, promotional themes, advertising campaigns, publications and Web sites for both university campuses and a non-profit arts organization. He has extensive experience building and maintaining relationships with media including commercial, public and municipal television and radio groups, advertising agencies and corporate sponsors.

The director of communications, public relations and marketing is responsible for providing strategic leadership, giving direction to marketing and providing external and internal communications counsel as a member of the administrative team. The role is critical to the development of key messages and communication strategies for the Crookston campus.
