Crookston, Minn. (June 3, 2008) – University of Minnesota, Crookston All-Campus Advisory Committee member Margaret Reed was recently inducted into Altru’s Nursing Hall of Fame. Reed, the chief nurse for Altru Health System, has been a major influence in nurse mentoring, nurse education and other professional nursing initiatives. Her expertise is one of the reasons she serves as a member of the campus advisory committee.

Reed joined 15 other nurses honored since 1993 in Altru’s Nursing Hall of Fame. Excellence in patient care led to her induction into the prestigious group. She believes that the basic relationship between patients and nurses has remained the same over the years no matter what technological advances have taken place in health care.

Revitalizing and reorganizing patient care after the Flood in 1997 was one area in which Reed took a leadership role. She received her nursing degree in 1976, but began working at the hospital as a candy-striper when she was just a teenager. Her experience, knowledge and leadership have made her a valued member of the Crookston Campus All-College Advisory Committee. The purpose of the committee is to connect the vision and mission of the campus to the community where they live and work. Their external perspective helps the campus ensure current programs and initiatives are meeting the priorities of the individuals, groups, organizations and businesses they interact with.

Members of the advisory committee are responsible to provide comments and insight about programs and services the U of M, Crookston has or should consider, assist and advise on recruitment of students, faculty and staff, advocate for the University with local, state and national policy makers, help identify donors that may be willing to provide financial support for scholarships, programs or buildings and offer advice to the Chancellor on specific issues
