Ashley Allen has Career Night for Golden Eagles in 3-1 Loss to North Dakota

(Crookston, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston women’s volleyball team traveled to Grand Forks, N.D. tonight to take on the undefeated University of North Dakota. The Golden Eagles were unable to spoil the Fighting Sioux perfect season as UND took the match 3-1 (14-25, 24-26, 25-13, 20-25).

The University of North Dakota opened the match hitting a blistering .357 (13K-3E-28 TA) attack percentage in the first set. UMC started off stale, hitting a -.038 (5K-6E-26TA) attack percentage. The Fighting Sioux used their offense to cruise to a 25-14 first set victory. The Golden Eagles rallied back in the second set to take a 22-18 lead. However, UND outscored UMC 8-2 down the stretch to take the 26-24 set victory and the 2-0 lead. The Golden Eagles used the momentum and a .379 (16K-5E-29TA) attack percentage in set four to defeat UND 25-13 to cut the match lead to 2-1. The Fighting Sioux and Golden Eagles played to eight tie scores and four lead changes in the fourth set. When the dust settled, it was UND taking the fourth set 25-20 and the match 3-1.

Ashley Allen (OH, 6’0, JR, Buffalo, Minn.) had a career night for the Golden Eagles. Allen finished the match with a career high 16 kills and a .290 (16K-7E-31TA) attack percentage. Danielle Rueter (OH, 5’9, FR, Burlington, Wis.) also finished in double-digits with 11 kills. Cassie Yates (S, 5’10, SR, Buffalo, Minn.) and Kate Holmquist (S, 5’6, FR, Middleton, Wis.) shared the setter duties in the match. Yates finished with 20 assists while Holmquist finished with 16. Jaclyn Slepicka (LIB, 5’2, JR, Crystal Lake, Ill.) led all defenders in the match with 14 defensive digs.

North Dakota was led offensively by Amanda Polzin who finished the match with 15 kills and a .344 (15K-4E-32TA) attack percentage. Britta Hanson followed Polzin with 13 kills and a .379 (13K-2E-29TA) attack percentage. Megan Langseth paced all setters with 37 assists in the match.

The Golden Eagles are 0-8 overall this season and 0-0 in the NSIC. North Dakota moves to a perfect 10-0 overall. The University of Minnesota, Crookston travels to Vermillion, S.D. to take on the Coyotes from the University of South Dakota on Saturday, September 13. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
