U of M, Crookston Alumni Kirk Schultz Honored as Outstanding Alumni

The University of Minnesota, Crookston honored three outstanding alumni during the final two days of Homecoming week, which took place September 22-27. Included was Kirk Schultz, a 1979 graduate from the U of M, Crookston.

Schultz graduated with a degree in hotel, restaurant and institutional management and has more than 30 years of experience in the hotel and restaurant industry.

Today, Schultz, based out of Stillwater, Minn., is a partner and vice president of operations for the Madison Hospitality Group in Brainerd, Minn. His responsibilities include hotel and restaurant operations, new hotel development, renovation, management contracts, acquisitions and strategic planning. Previously, he was regional vice president of operations for Torgerson Properties in Willmar, Minn.

Schultz is the 2008 president-elect of the Minnesota Lodging Association and has served as a board member for the association since 2002. He and his wife, Kathy, are the parents of three grown children, Jason, Jennifer and Jessica.

Homecoming week also included a naming ceremony for the Sargeant Student Center also took place, where the Student Center was officially named after Chancellor Emeritus Donald Sargeant as well as
a concert by the band 32 Below, bonfire and pep fest, a homecoming parade and tailgate parties for Teambackers and students. To round out the week the U of M, Crookston Golden Eagles defeated the Minnesota State University-Moorhead Dragons 20-16 in a football match-up.
