Golden Eagle Western Equestrian Team Starts Season Strong at UW-River Falls

(Crookston, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston Western Equestrian team opened their 2008-2009 season with a strong showing at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls on Saturday, October 4 and Sunday, October 5.


The Golden Eagles began with a second place finish in the Open Rail Division by Amanda Peterson (Jr, Rochester, Minn.).  Both Rebecca Rhodus (So, Kansas City, Missouri) and Kaitlyn Tollefsrud (Fr, Hawley, Minn.) brought home first place ribbons in the Intermediate Division. Kayla Klein (So, Hazen, N.D.) captured another first place finish for the team in the Novice Division with Jess Hanson (Sr, Andover, Minn.) and Sarah Nowacki (Jr, Stephen, Minn.) placing second. Some of the highlights of Sunday’s show included Amanda Peterson taking a second place finish in the Open Reining Division and finishing as the Reserve High Point rider for Sunday’s meet. Sophomore Mary Hurley (So, Grand Meadow, Minn.) placed second in the Advanced Section while Melissa Zanotelli (Fr, Marshfield, Wis.) also brought in a second place finish for the Intermediate Division. U of M, Crookston finished third in the overall rankings for both meets.


The University of Minnesota, Crookston Western Equestrian team returns to action on Saturday, November 22 and Sunday, November 23 when they travel to Fargo, N.D. for a show at North Dakota State University. Saturday’s competition will start at 1 p.m. while Sunday’s will begin at 9 a.m.
