Golden Eagle Net Play Can’t Contain Wildcats in 3-1 Loss

(Crookston, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston Volleyball team hosted Wayne State College tonight in Lysaker Gymnasium. The Golden Eagles blocked 11 Wildcat attacks in the match but it wasn’t enough as WSC took the well-played match 3-1 (13-25, 19-25, 25-15, 21-25).

The Golden Eagles had outstanding offensive production once again from Amber Meyer (OH, 6’2, SO, Paxton, Neb.) tonight. Meyer recorded her eighth double-digit kill match of the season, finishing with 15 on the night and a .216 attack percentage. Cassie Yates (S, 5’10, SR, Buffalo, Minn.), who was recognized before the match for recording her 3,000 assist led the Golden Eagles with 32 set assists in the match. Yates added to the UMC offense posting three service aces. The digs were spread out evenly as the entire team played a solid defensive game. Jaclyn Slepicka (Lib., 5’2, JR, Crystal Lake, Ill.) led all defenders with 10 digs. Leading the charge at the net was Andrea Hubbell (MH, 6’1, SO, Isle, Minn.) who recorded one solo block and six assisted blocks. Meyer played outstanding at the net as well finishing the match with one solo block and five assisted blocks.

The Wildcats had terrific offensive output from Jennifer Hefner and Mindy Moody. Hefner finished with a match-high 17 kills and .593 attack percentage. Moody followed closely with 14 kills and a .400 attack percentage. Jenna Jansen led all setters on the evening with 43 total assists and added four service aces to help the Wildcats in the victory.

The University of Minnesota, Crookston is now 2-15 overall and 2-6 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC). The Wildcats improve to 15-3 overall and 5-3 in the NSIC. The Golden Eagles return to the court tomorrow at 5 p.m. to host Augustana College in Lysaker Gymnasium. The game can be seen live on the internet at Northern Sun TV (
