Vikings Close Out Dreary Weekend with 3-0 Victory over Golden Eagles

(Crookston, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston closed out a rain-soaked weekend with a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) match against Augustana College. The sun didn’t shine enough on the Golden Eagles as the Vikings took today’s match 3-0 (20-25, 18-25, 12-25).
The Golden Eagles had trouble getting the offense firing on all cylinders only managing a .147 (34K-18E-109TA) team attack percentage. Team highs offensively went to Andrea Hubbell (MH, 6’1, SO, Isle, Minn.) and Ashley Allen (OH, 6’0, JR, Buffalo, Minn.) who finished with seven kills apiece. Assisting on 27 of the team’s 34 kills was Cassie Yates (S, 5’10, SR, Buffalo, Minn.). Heather Foreman (OH, 5’10, SR, Brandon, Manitoba) tallied 16 defensive digs in the match, just two shy of her season high.
The Vikings had good offensive production out of Beth Talcott who finished the match with 10 kills and a .409 (10K-1E-22TA) attack percentage. Cayla Schroeder recorded a match high 11 kills for the Vikings on her way to a .375 (11K-2E-24TA) attack percentage. Augustana had an overall team kill percentage of .362 (46K-8E-105TA) in the match. Leading the way in assists on the night was Lisa Hoegh who assisted on 39 of the 46 Viking kills. Strong play at the net was shown by Blythe Johnson who had seven block assists while the team finished with nine total blocks.
The University of Minnesota, Crookston is now 2-16 overall and 2-7 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC). The Vikings improve to 15-6 overall and 8-1 in the NSIC. The Golden Eagles host MSU Moorhead next Saturday, October 18 in the “Dig for the Cure Match”. First server is set for 7 p.m. in Lysaker Gymnasium.
