Augustana College Defeats Golden Eagles 2-1 in Hard Fought Soccer Game

(Crookston, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston Women’s Soccer team put together arguably their strongest outing of the 2008 season against Augustana College today in Crookston, Minn. However, the Vikings had just a bit too much for the Golden Eagles as they won 3-1 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) action.

 

Augustana College got on the board first as Katelyn Ley found the back of the net off an assist from Jill Goodrich at 19:13. At 37:21, Raelyn Walczak put the Vikings up 2-0 with an unassisted goal. U of M, Crookston countered when Justine Jones (Jr, Fwd/Mid, Richland, Wash.) scored off an assist from Kasey Castor (Fr, Mid, Northglenn, Colo.) at 71:10. Augustana College secured the victory at 86:35 when Stacy Dally scored an unassisted goal to defeat the Golden Eagles 3-1. U of M, Crookston’s Anna Ogaard (So, GK, Maple Grove, Minn.) was stellar in net recording six saves.

 

The Vikings improve to 11-3-1 overall and 8-2-0 in the NSIC. The Golden Eagles fall to 2-14-1 and 1-9-0 in the NSIC. U of M, Crookston will play their final home game on Sunday, October 26 when they host Wayne State College at 1 p.m. in NSIC play. It will be senior day for the Golden Eagles as Richelle Copiak (Sr, Fwd, Calgary, Alberta, Canada), Vanessa Copiak (Sr, Def/Mid, Calgary, Alberta, Canada), Amber Erdmann (Sr, Def/Mid/Fwd, Crookston, Minn.) and Alyssa Jensen (Sr, Fwd/Mid/Def, Rice Lake, Minn.) make their final home appearances.
