Golden Eagles Set Season Highs in 3-2 Victory over Wolves

(Crookston, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston (UMC) hosted Northern State University (NSU) at Lysaker Gymnasium. The team took to the court tonight looking for a weekend sweep in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) action. Like last night, the Golden Eagles took the first two sets in decisive fashion. The Wolves battled and took sets three and four before UMC finished NSU in set five 15-8 to take the 3-2 (25-20, 25-19, 32-34, 20-25, 15-8) victory.
The Golden Eagles as a team, set season highs in kills with 63 and total attacks with 189 in the match. Leading the way offensively was Amber Meyer (OH, 6-2, SO, Paxton, Neb.) who recorded 19 kills on a season high 47 total attacks.  Allison Zajicek (MH, 6-0, SR, Beatrice, Neb.) played a fantastic match finishing with 12 kills and a season and team high .667 (12K-0E-18TA) attack percentage. Andrea Hubbell (MH, 6-1, SO, Isle, Minn.) played one of the best matches of her career. She finished with a season high 14 kills and four (1 solo, 6 assisted) total blocks. Setter Cassie Yates (S, 5-10, SR, Buffalo, Minn.) set a new season best, assisting on 54 of the 63 total kills. She also added a new season high with 17 defensive digs. Jaclyn Slepicka (Lib., 5-2, JR, Crystal Lake, Ill.) recorded 22 defensive digs on the night to lead UMC. The Golden Eagles earned nine service aces in the match to help them in the victory.
Leading Northern State offensively was Kayla Ysteboe with 11 kills and just ahead of her was Melanie Perez with 12. Megan Gilbraith had a very impressive 54 set assists on the afternoon. Stephanie Nygaard led all players in defensive digs with 27. They also had good protection on the net with 18 block assists.
The Golden Eagles are now 5-19 overall and 5-10 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) while the Wolves move to 13-13 overall and 4-12 in the NSIC. UMC hosts Concordia University- St. Paul and St. Cloud State on November 7 and 8. Game times are set for 7 p.m. and 4 p.m. respectively.
