U of M, Crookston’s Jacob Schira Named MCHA Freshman of the Week

(Crookston, Minn.)- University of Minnesota, Crookston Men’s Hockey player Jacob Schira (Fr, G, Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) has been named Freshman of the Week by the Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association (MCHA). It is his second MCHA honor in as many weeks as he was named MCHA Defensive Player of the Week just seven days ago.


Schira, a freshman goaltender, stopped 33 of 34 shots in a 3-1 victory over the Milwaukee School of Engineering on Friday evening. He held the Raiders to a zero for six showing on the power play. Schira is 1-1-0 on the season with a 1.51 goals against average and a .950 saves percentage.


He is a sport and recreation management major at the University of Minnesota, Crookston.


The Golden Eagles return to action on Friday, November 14 and Saturday, November 15 when they play host to Marian College in MCHA action. The puck drops at 7:30 p.m. and 2 p.m. respectively at the Crookston Civic Arena.
