Crookston, Minn. (November 14, 2008) – Women in the area are invited to kick off the holiday season at the second annual Women’s Holiday Social at the University of Minnesota, Crookston on Tues., Dec. 2, 2008. The Women’s Holiday Social, which raises money for UMC scholarships, will be held from 4- 6 p.m. in Bede Ballroom in the Sargeant Student Center.

This year’s silent auction includes about 20 themed baskets for bidding. The baskets are provided by individual departments created by University women who are and have been employed at the Crookston campus, each basket has unique items that match the theme chosen by women in each respective unit. Refreshments and light holiday treats will be served.   The UMC Horticulture Club too will have their holiday arrangements and trimmings for sale.

Chairperson Michelle Christopherson, director of the Center for Adult Learning, encourages the community to attend the social. “The Women’s Holiday Social is a great way to support scholarships for UMC women and start your holiday shopping, last year we raised over $2,000.00” says Christopherson. “It is an opportunity to connect, socialize, begin the holiday season and of course and support our students. Jeannine Windels and I are co-chairs and we welcome all women from the Crookston and surrounding community, mark your calendar and bring a friend!”

The holiday baskets also contend to win one of several awards including “Best of Show” and “Chancellor’s Choice.” All proceeds from the silent auction will be contributed to the Women’s Project Fund to support awareness and the recognition of scholarly work and service throughout the University of Minnesota, Crookston.
