Golden Eagles Use Strong Free-Throw Shooting in 82-63 Victory over Wartburg College

(Menomonie, Wis.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston (UMC) Men’s Basketball team opened the 2008 Super 8 Turkey Shootout against Wartburg College. The Golden Eagles shot 58% from the field to score a season high 82 points in the victory.
 
Minnesota, Crookston shot a blistering 63% from the field in the first half to take a 40-31 advantage at the break. UMC was a perfect 12-12 from the free-throw line in the first half and 15-21 from the line in the second half for 27 points at the charity stripe. The Golden Eagle bench continued to play strong as they scored 39 points in the game.
 
Akeem Cubie (G, 6-5, 180, SO, Minneapolis, Minn.) recorded the first double-double of his career. He led all players with 18 points and 11 rebounds. Delano Robinson (G, 6-2, 190, JR, Bloomington, Ill.) followed Cubie with 15 points. Matt Pelzer (G, 6-4, 190, SR, St. Cloud, Minn.) and Bruce Felts (F, 6-10, 220, SR, Bemidji, Minn.) rounded out the top scorers with 12 points each. Pelzer added three assists and a season high four steals in the victory, while Felts’ performance earned him a career high in points.
 
Wartburg College was led offensively by Ross Timmermans and Cashes Mason who each scored 12 points. Mason led all players with five assists. Jordan Sathoff grabbed a team high seven rebounds for the Knights.
 
The Golden Eagles are 2-3 overall on the season while the Knights fall to 2-1 overall. The Golden Eagles will play in the championship game tomorrow at 4 p.m. The team opens NSIC play on December 5 and 6 when they host Minnesota Duluth and Bemidji State. Game times are set for 8 p.m. both nights. The F-M Acro team will be performing at halftime of the men’s game on December 6. Bring the entire family out for an exciting night.
