(Crookston, Minn.)- University of Minnesota, Crookston head women’s softball coach Mitch Bakken announced today the signing of Krista Kenyon from Sanford, Manitoba to a National Letter of Intent to play for the Golden Eagles during the 2009-10 season.

Kenyon is a 5-5, utility player from Vincent Massey Collegiate. Kenyon plays for the “Blue Thunder” in the Manitoba Ladies Super Softball League (MLSSL). She earned the Thunderheart Award in 2005 and Most Improved Player Award in 2006. Kenyon was named the MVP of the Manitoba All-Star Game in 2007 and closed out the 2008 season with a .459 batting average.

“Krista is going to bring a much needed slap-hitter to the Golden Eagle lineup. Her speed and her ability to put the ball on the ground will help us not only in lineup versatility, but in the offensive plays we can run with runners on base,” says coach Bakken. “She is well coached and a very positive player. We welcome Krista to the Golden Eagles and I look forward to coaching her next season.”

Kenyon plans to major in wildlife management at the University of Minnesota, Crookston. She is the daughter of Robin and Rob Kenyon.
