Golden Eagle Hockey Squad Hits the Road for 2009 MCHA Playoffs

(Crookston, Minn.) – The University of Minnesota, Crookston Men’s Hockey team looks to keep their positive momentum going as they hit the road for the first round of the 2009 Midwest Collegiate Hockey Conference (MCHA) Playoffs. The Golden Eagles swept Northland College by scores of 4-1 and 3-0 last weekend and earned the sixth seed. They travel to Milwaukee, Wis. to face the third seeded Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) on Friday, February 20 and Saturday, February 21 at the Kern Center. The puck drops at 7:05 p.m. and 2:05 p.m. respectively.
 
U of M, Crookston met the Raiders back on November 7-8 at the Crookston Civic Arena and earned a split. The Golden Eagles took game one 3-1 and dropped game two 3-2.

 

U of M, Crookston finished the regular season with an overall record of 5-20-0 and MCHA record of 5-15-0. They are led by Matt Marchel (Jr, Def, Grand Forks, N.D.) who has scored seven goals and added eight assists for 15 points. Brent Swanson (Jr, Fwd, Mason City, Iowa) has scored six goals and added eight assists for 14 points. Nigel Smith (Fr, Fwd, White Rock, B.C.) and Fred Kooser (Jr, Fwd, Omaha, Neb.) have each recorded 13 points. Smith has seven goals and sixth assists while Kooser has six goals and seven assists. John Lombardi (Jr, Fwd, Burnsville, Minn.) and Jonathan Frank (Fr, Def, Wallingford, Conn.) each have 10 points. Lombardi has eight goals and two assists while Frank has four goals and six assists. Bryan Dalbec (Fr, G, Superior, Wis.) has a 4.50 goals against average and a .882 saves percentage.

MSOE finished the regular season with an overall record of 13-10-2 and 12-7-1. They swept Marian University 3-1 and 3-2 (OT) this past weekend. The Raiders are led by Steve Smiddy who has scored eight goals and added 19 assists for 27 points. Jason Woll has scored two goals and added 20 assists for 22 points. Conner Toomey has a 2.65 goals against average and a .911 saves percentage.
