Valentine Gala Raises $2,000 for Student Scholarships at the U of M, Crookston
February 25, 2009

The first ever Valentine Gala at the University of Minnesota, Crookston raised $2,000 for student scholarships. More than 70 community members gathered to celebrate Valentine’s Day, enjoy dinner and dancing, and connect with friends of the University.  During the Gala, guests were serenaded, while enjoying dinner, and later in the evening, many enjoyed entertaining the crowd with karaoke.

Sherry Just and Mary Cavalier, co-chairs of the event were pleased with the wonderful turnout.  “We had a great time; the evening was red hot,” said Just, who works in the Office of Admissions on the campus. “Many campus and Crookston community members were able to join us for a fun evening."

There was live music including karaoke, and Associate Professor George French, along with several students, shared their many musical talents. Students also volunteered to provide guest services, a coat check, and photography during the event.

Cavalier stated that while the event was slated to raise scholarship dollars for students, “it was the students who need to be recognized for their contributions; a special thanks to all of the wonderful students who helped make this event happen!”

All proceeds from the Gala will go to the Office of Development & Alumni Relations in support of student scholarships at the U of M, Crookston. This year’s Gala was organized by the University of Minnesota, Crookston’s Women’s Project Fund.
