Mary Opens Up from Long Range in 92-63 Victory over Golden Eagles

(Bismarck, N.D.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston (UMC) Women’s Basketball team travel to Bismarck, N.D. tonight to play the University of Mary Marauders. Mary defeated the Golden Eagles 95-70 on January 30 and used a season high 15 three-pointers tonight to defeat UMC 92-63.
 
Bri Zabel (F, 6-0, FR, Northfield, Minn.) led the Golden Eagles in scoring with 14 points. She was 3-11 from the field and 8-9 at the free-throw line. Megan Eul (F, 5-11, FR, Rosemount, Minn.) scored 13 points and grabbed a game high nine rebounds. Eul was 3-8 from the field, 6-7 from the free-throw line and currently ranked 18th in the country in free-throw percentage at 88.2%. Jamie Zelinsky (G, 5-11, SO, Brooklyn Park, Minn.) and Gina Jaroszewski (F, 5-11, SO, Moorhead, Minn.) closed out the top UMC scorers with 11 and 10 points respectively.
 
Mary was led by Sonny Schulz who scored a game high 22 points. She was 9-17 from the field and 4-7 from long range. Rachel Zillmer was perfect on the night going 6-6 from the field and 7-7 from the charity stripe. Kayla Rogers closed out the top Marauder scorers with 14 points. Mary as a team shot a blistering 54% from the field including 55.6% from beyond the arc in the game.
 
The University of Minnesota, Crookston moves to 9-17 overall and 5-15 in the NSIC. Mary advances to 15-11 overall and 10-9 in the NSIC. The Golden Eagles close out the 2008-09 season on Saturday, February 28 when the team travels to MSU Moorhead to take on the Dragons. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
