Golden Eagle Baseball Team Stuns St. Cloud State University 6-5 in 12 Innings to Earn Split

(Crookston, Minn.) – Tyler Reiner (Sr, C, Sanborn, Minn.) hit a double down the right field line with two outs in the top half of the 12th inning scoring Paul Krebs (Sr, OF/RHP, Little Falls, Minn.) from first base as the University of Minnesota, Crookston stunned the Central Region’s fourth ranked team in St. Cloud State University by a 6-5 score Friday night in Freeman, S.D. in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) action. The Huskies took game one by a 7-5 score.

 

Game One Recap

 

St. Cloud State opened up a 6-1 lead and withheld a late rally by the Golden Eagles to take home a 7-5 victory. Sam Radbill hit two solo homeruns and Nate Johnson hit a two-run homer for the Huskies. Casey Woodside (Fr, C, Albert Lea, Minn.) and Krebs hit solo homeruns while Jordan Triestram (Jr, 1B, Shakopee, Minn.) hit a three-run homer for U of M, Crookston. David Deminsky threw 6.1 innings allowing four runs on four hits and striking out ten to earn the victory.

 

Game Two Recap

 

Four lead changes highlighted an exciting 12 inning affair that saw the Golden Eagles capture the 6-5 victory. Krebs added his second solo homerun of the day while Devin Croal (Fr, 2B, Coon Rapids, Minn.) added a two-run homer. Reiner added two hits, including a solo homerun, and two RBI. Erik Nockleby (Fr, OF, Roseville, Minn.) added two hits for U of M, Crookston. Nate Hammes hit a two-run homer for the Huskies. Krebs threw the final 1.1 innings striking out two to earn his second win of the week and the season. Andrew Gunderson (Fr, RHP, Oakdale, Minn.) started the game and was solid throwing 5.2 innings. He gave up three runs and struck out seven.

 

St. Cloud State University falls to 20-5 overall and 1-1 in the NSIC. The University of Minnesota, Crookston improves to 3-13 overall and 1-1 in the NSIC. The two teams will play a second doubleheader on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Freeman, S.D.
