Horticulture Club at U of M, Crookston to Host an Orchid Workshop on Wed., Apr. 22, 2009; Workshop begins at 6 p.m. in the Greenhouse, Pre-registration required

Spring is in the air and nothing is as beautiful as a blooming flowers after a long winter. The Horticulture Club at the University of Minnesota, Crookston is hosting an orchid workshop on Wednesday, April 22, 2009, in the greenhouse located just east of parking lot A. The workshop begins at 6 p.m. and preregistration is required. The class is limited to 30 people. Cost for the evening is $20.00; to register, contact Sue Jacobson, horticulture instructor, at 218-281-8118 (sjacobso@umn.edu).

The evening begins with a presentation on orchids by Senior Jennifer Zoch, Remer, Minn., a horticulture major and orchid enthusiast. Following the presentation, workshop attendees will have an opportunity to divide orchid plants and mount them on cork bark to be taken home. Orchids will be provided for all attendees of the workshop.

Club members hold weekly plant sales in the Student Center, selling a wide variety of houseplants and specialty crops grown by the club and horticulture students. Production Horticulture at the U of M, Crookston provides students with an experience to grow these crops while learning cultural requirements, management of people and investment resources, and good greenhouse practices.
