It is time to celebrate community spirit during a Flood Fight Appreciation Picnic on Tuesday, April 28, 2009, at the University of Minnesota, Crookston. The picnic will take place from noon to 2 p.m. at the Peterson Gazebo on the Campus Mall. Everyone is invited and there is no charge for the picnic. Rain site is Brown Dining Room in the Sahlstrom Conference Center.

The Flood Fight Appreciation Picnic is an opportunity for the community and campus to gather and celebrate the successful battle against flooding of the Red Lake River in the Crookston community. In late March, the campus cancelled classes in an effort to assist the community with sandbagging. Estimates are that some 1,200 people helped battle the rising waters including a large number of students from the U of M, Crookston and the Crookston High School.

The event is sponsored by Student Services at the U of M, Crookston. For more information, contact Thomas Williams, director of diversity and multicultural services at 218-281- 8580 or Peter Phaiah, associate vice chancellor for student affairs at 218-281-8505.
