Golden Eagle Baseball Team Closes Out 2009 Season with Six Home Games

(Crookston, Minn.) – The University of Minnesota, Crookston Baseball team will close out the 2009 season with six Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) games at home. The Golden Eagles will face the University of Minnesota Duluth on Wednesday, April 29. First pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 2 p.m. at the UMC Baseball Field. U of M, Crookston will take on Wayne State College (Neb.) on Saturday, May 2 and Sunday, May 3. Both doubleheaders will start at 12 p.m. at the UMC Baseball Field.

The Golden Eagles have an overall record of 7-36 and NSIC record 3-23. They dropped an NSIC doubleheader at the University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) on Wednesday (6-8 & 0-11), split with Mayville State University in a non-conference doubleheader at home on Friday (14-15 & 14-13) and defeated the Comets in Mayville, N.D.  on Saturday (3-2 – 10 innings).

They are led by Jake Poehler (So, OF, Coon Rapids, Minn.) is hitting .343 (48 for 140) with 19 RBI. He has seven doubles, two triples and two home runs. Devin Croal (Fr, IF, Coon Rapids, Minn.) is hitting .340 (53 for 156) with 22 RBI. He has nine doubles, four triples and two homeruns. Paul Krebs (Sr, OF/RHP, Little Falls, Minn.) is hitting .295 (39 for 132) with 21 RBI. He has four doubles, one triple and three homeruns. Casey Woodside (Fr, C, Albert Lea, Minn.) is hitting .287 (35 for 122) with 24 RBI. He has eight doubles and two homeruns. Krebs is 2-5 on the mound with one save and a 4.50 ERA. He has 43 strikeouts. Steve Schroer (Fr, RHP, Coon Rapids, Minn.) is 1-3 on the mound with one save and a 3.90 ERA. He has 26 strikeouts.

Golden Eagles vs. UMD            Wednesday, April 29            2 p.m. (2)

Coach Bob Reints and his Bulldogs have an overall record of 20-26 and NSIC record of 12-14 after splitting a four-game series at Winona State University this past weekend. They are led by David Olson who is hitting .383 (59 for 154) with 11 homeruns and 50 RBI. Will Dahlgren is hitting.355 (50 for 141) with three homeruns and 29 RBI. Anders Enberg is 3-1 with a 1.93 ERA and 42 strikeouts.

Golden Eagles vs. Wayne State College    Saturday/Sunday, May 2-3        12 p.m. (2)

Coach John Manganaro and his Wildcats have an overall record of 33-11 and NSIC record of 21-4 after splitting a four-game series with Minnesota State University, Mankato this past weekend. They host St. Cloud State University in an NSIC doubleheader on Wednesday. Wayne State College is led by Treye Hacker who is hitting .394 (41 for 104) with seven homeruns and 35 RBI. Mike Besenius is hitting .379 (44 for 116) with seven homeruns and 40 RBI. Justin Hemauer is hitting .361 (48 for 133) with six homeruns and 31 RBI. Joe Wendte is hitting .360 (49 for 136) with seven homeruns and 35 RBI. Chad Moreland is 6-2 with a 3.97 ERA and 28 strikeouts. Eric Schwieger is 5-0 with 4.38 ERA and 12 strikeouts.
