UMC Names Director of Communication

February 7, 2006—Crookston, MN—The University of Minnesota, Crookston (UMC) is pleased to announce the appointment of Krista Lemos as the new director of communication. Lemos comes to UMC from Monterey, CA, where she currently serves as the community education and outreach coordinator.

Krista Lemos brings more than 15 years of communications experience to the university team. Her professional expertise in creating and maintaining comprehensive outreach campaigns includes target marketing, Web site and Intranet development, internal communications, television production as well as community and business collaboration. Lemos will be joining UMC in late March to take over her new responsibilities, which include serving as media spokesperson; developing key messages and coordinating communication strategies for the campus; and overseeing development and execution of marketing efforts along with image building.

“We are extremely pleased to have someone with Krista Lemos' background and experience lead the communications and marketing efforts here at the university,” says UMC Chancellor Charles H. Casey, “Her knowledge of current public relations and outreach techniques and trends as well as her proven ability to lead and collaborate will ensure that our campus community continues to aim higher, reach further and dream big dreams."

In previous positions, Lemos served as communications coordinator for SEDC, the Southeastern Economic Development Corporation in San Diego, and as community representative for Norwest Mortgage, Inc., now merged with Wells Fargo Bank. She is a graduate of California State University, Fresno, where she was a double major in journalism and Spanish. Lemos has created award-winning television programming for Monterey’s government access station and also designed the city's award-winning employee Intranet site and online employee newsletter, “City Talk."

Krista Lemos and her husband, Preston Gobel, enjoy hiking, camping, cooking and traveling. The couple is in the process of relocating to the area.
