More than 150 Students to Participate in UMC Commencement 2006 – Saturday, May 6
CROOKSTON, MN (April 25, 2006) – Commencement ceremonies at the University of Minnesota, Crookston (UMC) are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, May 6, for the graduating class of 2006. Families, friends and community members are invited to attend the ceremonies being held at Lysaker Gymnasium on the UMC campus. Commencement 2006 also serves as UMC’s Centennial celebration finale, a fitting occasion to recognize a year of activities and programs highlighting 100 years of excellence in education, research, and outreach to the northwest region, the state, and beyond.|
More than 150 students will participate in commencement, marking the 97th to take place on the Crookston campus. Bachelor of science, associate in applied science and associate in science degrees will be conferred upon graduates, subject to completion of all curriculum requirements.
University of Minnesota Regent Clyde Allen, Jr., will offer greetings from the Board of Regents. Keynote speaker and UMC 1979 Alumna Cindy Bigger (photo at left) will present “Go…You Can Always Sleep Later!” Bigger is an associate professor and regional extension educator for the University of Minnesota Extension Service.
Chancellor Charles H. Casey and Regent Allen will confer the degrees. Professor William Peterson, head of the Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences Dept. will present the candidates.
Crookston Student Association (CSA) President Deann Roers (photo at right), a graduating senior with a major in business management with an emphasis in business marketing, will speak on behalf of the student body offering inspirational and congratulatory remarks. Roers, who is from West Fargo, ND, has taken a position as sales manager for a hotel in Fargo, ND.
UMC Alumni Association President Korey Hegreberg (photo at left), a 1998 alumnus, will offer congratulations and welcome the class of 2006 into the alumni association.
Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFROTC) Detachment 610 Color Guard will present the colors, and special music will be presented by the UMC Chamber Singers and Cellist Vanessa Armstrong, a UMC senior majoring in pre-pharmacy.
