Fifteen Area Photographers Winners in UMC “Beautiful U” Photo Contest

CROOKSTON, MN (April 28, 2006) – Fifteen local photographers were winners in the “Beautiful U” Photo Contest held by the University of Minnesota, Crookston (UMC). Winners received recognition along with cash prizes for placing in each category. Winning entries are on display in the new UMC Student Center Bookstore, on campus, through Saturday, May 6. Community members are encouraged to stop by to tour the exhibit.
Nearly 100 entries arrived from the Crookston community, UMC student body, and others in the immediate region. The images were evaluated based on overall appeal, design composition, appropriateness to the category they were submitted under, and the application of photographic skills. The photo contest committee was very pleased with the quality and diversity of all submissions.
Prizes were awarded in the following categories:

2nd Prize: Terry Tollefson, “River Ice Three” (Crookston, MN)

3rd Prize: Luke Wittkop, “Forest Sunrise” (Hugo, MN)


1st Prize: Sonia Glasgow, “Sandbagging” (Crookston, MN)

2nd Prize: Casey McKenna, “Birthday Girl” (Crookston, MN)

The photo contest was held as part of UMC’s Beautiful U Day held in April. Established in 1997 by the University of Minnesota, Beautiful U Day is a state-funded effort to enhance University of Minnesota campuses. UMC was awarded funding for 11 enhancement projects including landscaping, garden creation, various plantings, campus-wide plant identifications, photo exhibits and early childhood playground. More than 100 volunteers helped during this year’s event.
