CROOKSTON, MN (May 5, 2006) – Two University of Minnesota, Crookston (UMC) graduating seniors Tara Peterson, Red Lake Falls, MN, and Vonna Tweed, Reynolds, ND, are the first students to receive |
Microsoft Office certifications since UMC recently became a testing center for Microsoft Office and Internet certification and Computing Core Certification (IC3) exams. They successfully passed the Microsoft Office Specialist 2003 Word and 2003 PowerPoint certification exams.
Office certifications are widely recognized by employers as proof of competency with software applications. In today’s market, having a certification on the resume may make all the difference. UMC is pleased to provide this service for students, faculty, and staff right here on campus.
An accounting major, Tweed said she is very excited about passing the Microsoft Office certification test. “I look forward to using the knowledge I have learned in my future career.”
Peterson, also an accounting major, said she is very pleased that UMC offers this course. “Companies are looking for applicants that have proficiency in Microsoft Office such as Microsoft Word and Excel. Now, I have the Microsoft Office Specialist certification edge when applying for a job.”
UMC Assistant Professor and Microsoft Office Specialist Certification Proctor Twyla Treanor encourages all UMC students to get the certification. “It should be a goal of all UMC students no matter what their major. Microsoft certification sets students apart as desktop computing experts.
“Research shows that 91% of managers view certified employees as more competent their non-certified employees.”
UMC now offers the following certification exams for students, faculty and staff: Word 2003 Core, Word 2003 Expert, Excel 2003 Core, Excel 2003 Expert, PowerPoint 2003, Access 2003, and Outlook 2003. In addition, those seeking Internet and Computing Core Certification (IC3) can take the computing fundamentals, key applications, and living online exams at UMC. These three exams together comprise the IC3 process.
If you would like to schedule a time to take a certification exam or learn more about the certification process and how to prepare, contact Treanor at 218-281-8181 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
