CROOKSTON, MN (July 25, 2006) – Degree offerings at the University of Minnesota, Crookston (UMC) continue to expand with the addition of a psychology major this fall 2006. The new program is made possibly through collaboration between UMC and the University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD), both University of Minnesota campuses. UMC students can earn a bachelor of applied science degree in psychology by taking their general education courses and beginning psychology courses onsite at UMC and the advanced courses online through UMD. UMC’s top-level technology efforts make these types of activities possible.

UMC Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences Department Head Bill Peterson paved the way to bring the psychology major to campus, and he is excited about expanding choices for students. “The online degree in psychology broadens our offerings and gives students options as they move through their educational career,” Peterson explains. “The program will provide the same curricular requirements and rigor of the regular on-campus psychology degree program at UMD, but students will have the advantage of staying at UMC, in a small campus setting, to complete it.”

The UMD psychology degree provides students with a firm grounding in the methods, history, and content areas of the discipline. Graduates will be prepared for graduate study leading to advanced degrees in psychology or paraprofessional positions.

UMC was the first campus to offer degrees online through the University of Minnesota system with its applied health degree. A bachelor’s of manufacturing management (BMM) and a bachelor’s of business management (BBM) will also be offered online beginning in the spring of 2007.

The University of Minnesota, Crookston (UMC) delivers some 24 different undergraduate degrees in the fields of agriculture; arts, humanities, and social sciences; business; math, science, and technology, and natural resources. UMC is dedicated to helping students and the region aim higher, reach further, and dream big dreams. To learn more, visit www.UMCrookston.edu.
