CROOKSTON, MN (August 21, 2006) – The University of Minnesota, Crookston (UMC) is showing off their stuff at the Great Minnesota Get-Together. More than 20 UMC alumni, students, faculty and staff will be welcoming fairgoers to the University of Minnesota building during the Minnesota State Fair at the UMC exhibit booth from Friday, Aug. 25 to Sunday, Aug. 27.
UMC encourages all Minnesota State Fair visitors to wear maroon and gold and stop by and visit the University of Minnesota, Crookston exhibit. Support the university and help spread the word about the education, research and outreach efforts at UMC. Information on the campus, the Crookston area, along with registration material, will be available.
UMC will also have talented students performing on stage. The following University of Minnesota, Crookston groups will be performing at the Minnesota State Fair:
"My Only Chance" with UMC sophomores Gareth McNichol-Briggs and Deborah Halstad will be performing August 25 and 26 from 3 to 4 p.m. My Only Chance began musically experimenting in mid January 2006, writing some instrumental pieces and harmonizing to their pre-existing compositions. The two collaborate on musical works with harmonies reminiscent of bands such as The Scene Aesthetic, Daphne Loves Derby, and Relient K.

"Who Wants to be an Entrepreneur?" will be led by Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) from the University of Minnesota, Crookston on Saturday, Aug. 26, from 2 to 3 p.m. The group will explore the world of job creation and what it takes to succeed as an entrepreneur or improve an existing business. Get the scoop, learn about successful projects in northwestern Minnesota and have fun at the same time with UMC’s SIFE team, which has earned Regional Champion status since 1999, the only college in Minnesota, Wisconsin, and North and South Dakota to achieve this standing.
The Minnesota State Fair, in St. Paul, Minnesota, runs August 24 thru September 4, 2006. The Great Minnesota Get-Together is 12 days of fun and excitement running through Labor Day.
