CROOKSTON, Minn. (July 24, 2007) – Free ice cream, music, prizes and family fun are on tap for everyone at the University of Minnesota, Crookston Old Fashioned Ice Cream Social during Crookston’s annual Ox Cart Days celebration. The event which includes the first round of the Crookston Talent Showcase competition will take place on Friday, Aug. 17, 2007, from 3 to 5 p.m. near the Peterson Gazebo on the Campus Mall.


“Ox Cart Days provides Crookston and the surrounding area a chance to celebrate its heritage, and the faculty and staff at the University of Minnesota, Crookston are looking forward to hosting the community as part of this year’s “A Flashback in Time” celebration,” said Krista Lemos, director of communications at the U of M, Crookston. “Everyone is invited to campus to enjoy the beautiful campus setting, music, activities and the ice cream, of course.”


Along with the ice cream social, music will be provided by the Valley Fiddlers under the direction of Val Buchmeier, orchestra director at the Crookston High School.  The U of M, Crookston bookstore will be selling T-shirts for $6.99 to encourage everyone to celebrate Maroon & Gold Fridays throughout the year. Families can enjoy the wide array of books and apparel available in the store which will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.


Displays by a number of campus departments will be available on the mall as well, and prizes will be given away during the afternoon. At 4:30 pm., the first round of Crookston Talent Showcase gets underway.
