Students, alumni, staff and faculty experts from the Crookston campus set up shop in the U of M Building at the Minnesota State Fair Aug. 25-26, 2007, and shared their talents and stories about the exceptional applied-learning and research experiences happening in northwestern Minnesota.

Faculty members David DeMuth, Jr., and Harouna Maiga engaged fairgoers in discussions about research in the areas of Gamma-Ray Bursts and neutrinos and mustard bran as alternative feed for dairy cows. Professor Maiga was one of 12 researchers profiled on the back wall in the U of M Building and President Bruininks stopped by for Maroon and Gold Day on Sunday.

Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) held a “Who Wants to be an Entrepreneur?” trivia contest and gave away prizes and coloring books.  Student co-presidents Theo Powell, Mariam Maiga and Raldy Romero led the group’s efforts on stage. Live music was provided on two occasions by the popular singer and songwriter student Deborah Halstad, who made her second appearance at the fair.

University Relations Communications Assistant Stephanie Onken provided leadership throughout the event, on stage and at the booth. She also brought Regal to life to the delight of fairgoers of all ages.
