Golden Eagles Unable to Put the Pieces Together in Bismarck

(Bismarck, N.D.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston Golden Eagle Football team traveled to Bismarck, N.D. today to take on the University of Mary Marauders in NSIC play.  Offensively and defensively, the Golden Eagles were unable to make or stop the big play from happening leading to a 38-0 loss for the Golden Eagles.  The Golden Eagles were out gained offensively 146 yards to the Marauders 459 yards on the day.


On the first play of Mary’s opening possession, Bayland Rippenkroger scored a touchdown on a 33 yard run putting the Marauders up 7-0 with 13 minutes left in the first quarter.  Later in the quarter, Marauders kicker Rett Thibodeaux converted a 29 yard field goal to increase Mary’s lead to 10-0.


In the second quarter, Golden Eagle Quarterback David White (Sr., QB, Detroit, Mich.) threw an interception to Mary Linebacker Shawn Melland who returned the pick-off for a 59 yard touchdown return making the score 17-0.  Mary running back Jamal Lomax took a seven yard rush for a score, and wide receiver Mike Williams scored on a pass from quarterback Blair Sandy to put the Marauders up 31-0 at the half.


Mary’s final score came when defensive lineman James Patterson scored on a 23 yard fumble return increasing the Mary lead to 38-0.


Golden Eagle running back Reggie Frazier (Sr., RB, Los Angeles, Calif.) came out in the second half with a hard nose grinding 59 yards on 13 carries starting with an explosive15 yard run on his first carry.  Travis Coulson (Jr. P, Crescent City, Calif.) had six punts on the day for a 41.7 yard punt average through the winds of Bismarck.  Ben Stenberg (Sr., LB, North Branch, Minn.) was the leading tackler for the Golden Eagles on defense with eight tackles.  Tayler Michels (Jr., S, Pelican Rapids, Minn.) had six tackles and an interception putting him at three on the year.


Today’s loss puts the Golden Eagles at 1-5 overall and 0-5 in conference play while the Marauders improve to 4-3 overall and 4-1 in conference play.  The Golden Eagles start a two game home stand next weekend against the Northern State University Wolves on October 20th at 1:00 p.m. at Ed Widseth Field.
