Golden Eagles End Drought, Defeat Upper Iowa 3-0

(Crookston, Minn.)- The Golden Eagle Volleyball team returned to the win column tonight as they defeated the Upper Iowa Peacocks 3-0 (30-18, 30-23, 30-23). Prior to tonight’s victory, the team had won only three games in a nine match winless streak.


Prior to the intermission, Katie Bonine (Fr., OH, Cottage Grove, Minn.) set the pace, leading all attackers with 11 kills. She finished the match as the kill leader with 14. Three other Golden Eagle players had double-digit kills to even out the offense. Theresa Crance (Sr., MH, Timber Lake, S.D.) had 12 kills while Heather Foreman (Jr., OH, Brandon, Manitoba) and Amber Meyer (Fr., MH, Paxton, Neb.) finished with 10 kills each. Crance finished the match with an outstanding .625 attack percentage. Allison Zajicek (Jr., MH, Beatrice, Neb.) finished with a .500 attack percentage (7K-1E-12TA). Jaclyn Slepicka (So., Lib., Crystal Lake, Ill.) led all defenders with 17 digs and Cassie Yates (Jr., S, Buffalo, Minn.) set the pace with 45 assists. The Golden Eagles as a team attacked at an efficient .314 for the match.


The Peacocks were led by Darcy Hageman who had 10 kills. Defensively, Beth Deutmeyer had a match high five assisted blocks to go with her eight kills for Upper Iowa University.


The Golden Eagles are now 5-20 overall and 3-12 in the NSIC. The Peacocks drop to 4-21 overall and 0-13 in conference play. UMC returns to Lysaker Gymnasium on October 23 to host the University of North Dakota in non-conference action. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
