University of Mary Stops Golden Eagle Women’s Soccer Team by 4-2 Score

(Crookston, Minn.) – The University of Mary took a 3-1 lead into the intermission and held on to defeat the University of Minnesota, Crookston Women’s Soccer team by a score of 4-2 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) play today in Bismarck, N.D.


The Marauders opened a 1-0 lead just 1:30 into the game off a goal from Danielle Mello. Mello continued the scoring at 18:43 to give Mary a 2-0 lead. Becky Thorbjornsen (Jr., Mid., Rapid City, S.D.) got the Golden Eagles on the board at 29:18 when she scored off an assist from Kiely Bladow (Sr., Def./Mid., Monument, Colo.). The Marauders responded when Becky Beall put Mary up 3-1 at 36:46. Jessica Janusz increased the lead to 4-1 with a goal at 79:02. Thorbjornsen scored her second goal of the game and the team’s final one at 83:08 off Bladow’s second assist of the game. With her two assists today, Bladow has 13 on the season and 17 in her career. She is the all-time assist leader at U of M, Crookston and also holds the record for most assists in a single season.


The Golden Eagles fall to 5-13-0 and 2-5-0 in the NSIC. The Marauders improve their record to 11-6-0 and 5-3-0 in the NSIC. U of M, Crookston will close out the regular season on Saturday and Sunday when they play host to the University of Upper Iowa and Winona State University respectively. Both games will start at 1:00 pm.
