Upper Iowa Drops Golden Eagles Women’s Soccer Team by 6-1 Score

(Crookston, Minn.) – The University of Upper Iowa scored 1:18 into the game and never looked back as the Peacocks defeated the University of Minnesota, Crookston 6-1 today in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) action on a cold, blustery day in Crookston.


Upper Iowa’s first goal came off a header from Cara Mauldin. She was assisted by Jennifer Burnett. The scoring continued at 9:30 when Mauldin fed Amy Campbell to make the score 2-0. Campbell got in the assist category on the next goal as Lauren Smith scored at 25:42. Samantha Welch (Fr., Def., Arlington, Wash.) put the Golden Eagles on the board at 32:22 with an unassisted goal making the score 3-1 at the half.


Unfortunately, the second half was all Upper Iowa. Smith added her second goal of the afternoon off an assist from Erica Baedke at 51:28. Baedke proceeded to feed Jennifer Lee 2:10 later to make the score 5-1 Peacocks. Erin Rehfeldt closed out the scoring on a penalty kick at 62:23 making the final score 6-1.


U of M, Crookston’s record falls to 5-14-0 overall and 2-6-0 in the NSIC. Upper Iowa improves to 11-6-1 overall and 5-1-1 in the NSIC. The Golden Eagles close out the regular season tomorrow at home against Winona State University. Game time is 1:00 pm.
