New Faces Get Significant Playing Time for Golden Eagles Against the Bison

(Crookston, Minn.)- The Golden Eagle Women’s Basketball team traveled to the Bison Sports Center on the NDSU campus for an exhibition game with the Bison. UMC went up by as much as nine points in the first half but the depth of the Bison squad wore down the Golden Eagles to take a 111-69 victory.

 

Four newcomers saw significant playing time for the Golden Eagles. Jamie Zelinsky (Fr., G, Brooklyn Park, Minn.) led the UMC squad with 19 points, going 7-14 from the field and an outstanding 5-6 from beyond the arch. Ana Garcia (Fr., G, Minnetonka, Minn.) played 28 minutes tallying seven assists on the night. Gina Jaroszweski (Fr., F, Moorhead, Minn.) played 25 minutes and scored 14 points and pulled down four rebounds (one offensive, three defensive). Jenna Dolence (Fr., G, Moorhead, Minn.) rounded out the newcomers, playing 20 minutes and scoring five points. Returner Katie Cheline (So., F, Mondovi, Wis.) played 17 minutes and scored 10 points, going 5-9 from the field.

 

The Bison were led by Emily Moran’s 23 points. To assist in the win, the Bison turned 22 Golden Eagle turnovers into 36 points and added 16 more points in the paint than UMC.

 

The Golden Eagle Women’s Basketball team returns to the courting in non-conference action on November 16. The team travels to Morris, Minn. to take on the Cougars of Minnesota, Morris in a 5:30 p.m. game. The team’s first home game is on November 20 when Valley City State University visits Lysaker Gymnasium in a 6:00 p.m. contest.
