U of M, Crookston Men’s Hockey Team Drops Game to MSOE by 7-4 Score

(Crookston, Minn.) – The University of Minnesota, Crookston Men’s Hockey team dropped its second Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association (MCHA) game of the year today as the Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) defeated the Golden Eagles 7-4.
The Raiders scored 30 seconds and 1:32 into the first period on goals from Ken Walters and Stephen Smiddy. U of M, Crookston cut the lead to 2-1 on a power play goal from Alex Maginnis (Fr., Fwd., Mason City, Iowa). He was assisted by Matt Marchel (So., Def., Grand Forks, N.D.).
MSOE broke open the game in the second period with three straight goals from Blair Hanberg (00:18), Andrew Howard (13:05) and Michael Soik (13:52) to take a 5-1 lead. Maginnis (14:25) scored his second goal off a pass from Eddie Hanson (Fr., Fwd., Apple Valley, Minn.) to cut the lead to 5-2 going into the third period.
The third period was even as both teams scored twice. Jason Yolo put the Raiders up 6-2 with a power play goal at 6:17. Hanson put the Golden Eagles back on the board with a power play goal at 10:58. He was assisted by Maginnis. Smiddy tallied MSOE’s final goal at 15:32. Jared Kopp (Jr., Fwd., Bismarck, N.D.) made the final score 7-4 at 19:48 off an assist from Teal Plaine (Sr., Fwd., Hallock, Minn.).
MSOE out shot U of M, Crookston by a 47-20 margin.
The Raiders improve to 5-1-0 overall and 3-1-0 in the MCHA. The Golden Eagles fall to 0-4-0 overall and 0-2-0 in the MCHA.
U of M, Crookston will return to action next Friday and Saturday when they travel to Fon du Lac, Wis. to take on Marian College in MCHA action. The puck drops at 7:00 pm and 2:00 pm respectively.
