Golden Eagle Men's Hockey Team Hangs On for 3-2 Victory Over Lawrence University

(Crookston, Minn.) – Lawrence University out shot the University of Minnesota, Crookston Men’s Hockey team by a 47-31 margin. However, the Golden Eagles rode steady goaltending from Eric Everson (Jr., G., Stevens Point, Wis.) and picked up a third period goal from Jacob Osland (Jr., Def., Mayville, N.D.) to defeat Lawrence University 3-2 for their first Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association (MCHA) victory of the season today at the Crookston Civic Arena.

 

U of M, Crookston got on the board first with 15:29 gone in the first period when Brent Groenke (Sr., Fwd., Morden, Manitoba, Canada) scored a power play goal off an assist from John Lombardi (So., Fwd., Apple Valley, Minn.). Lawrence University countered with 13:00 elapsed in the second period when Mark Howe found the back of the net with an even strength goal off assists from Josh DeSmit and Nick Jennette. The Golden Eagles went on the power play but it was the Vikings who capitalized off a short handed goal from Jennette with an assist from Howe. U of M, Crookston evened the score 1:26 later off an even strength goal from Ryan Tucker (Sr., Fwd., Crookston, Minn.). He was assisted by Jared Kopp (Jr., Fwd., Bismarck, N.D.). Osland provided the third period heroics with an even strength goal 2:41 into the final stanza. He was assisted by Teal Plaine (Sr., Fwd., Hallock, Minn.).

 

The Golden Eagles improve their record to 2-6-0 overall and 1-4-0 in the MCHA. The Vikings fall to 1-5-1 overall and 1-4-0 in the MCHA. The two teams return to action tomorrow at the Crookston Civic Arena. The puck drops at 2:00 pm.
