(Crookston, Minn.) – The University of Minnesota, Crookston Men’s Hockey team has been waiting since December 2, 2007 to enjoy the spoils of victory. Thanks to a stellar goaltending performance by Eric Everson (Jr., G., Stevens Point, Wis.) and two power play goals from Brett Saari (Jr., Fwd., Green Bay, Wis), U of M, Crookston came a way with a convincing 6-0 victory over Concordia University of Wisconsin in Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association (MCHA) action tonight at the Crookston Civic Arena.

The Golden Eagles wasted little time getting on the scoreboard as Brent Swanson (So., Fwd., Mason City, Iowa) found the back of the net on an even strength goal at 1:44. He was assisted by Martin Husicka (Fr., Fwd., Vsetin, Czech Republic). Teal Plaine (Sr., Fwd., Hallock, Minn.) put U of M, Crookston up 2-0 at 16:27 with an even strength goal off an assist from Matt Hann (Sr., Fwd., Crookston, Minn.).

The second period provided more offensive fire power as Saari beat Concordia’s goaltender with a power play goal at 10:20. He was assisted by Husicka and Steve Zutz (Sr., Def., Red Lake Falls, Minn.). John Lombardi (So., Fwd., Apple Valley, Minn.) gave the Golden Eagles a 4-0 lead at 11:12 with an even strength goal. He was assisted by Brent Groenke (Sr., Def., Morden, Manitoba, Canada). Saari added his second power play goal of the game and the period at 15:49. He was assisted by Swanson and Plaine.

Ryan Tucker (Sr., Fwd., Crookston, Minn.) closed out the scoring at 2:46 of the third period with U of M, Crookston’s third power play goal. He was assisted by Plaine and Jacob Osland (Jr., Def., Mayville, N.D.).

Everson was outstanding in net stopping all 20 Concordia-Wisconsin shots to earn his second shut-out of the season.

U of M, Crookston improves their overall record to 4-14-0 and 3-10-0 in the MCHA. Concordia University of Wisconsin falls to 2-16-0 overall and 2-11-0 in the MCHA. The two teams resume action tomorrow at the Crookston Civic Arena. The puck drops at 2:00 pm.
