Finlandia University Tops U of M, Crookston by 3-1 Score

(Crookston, Minn.) – Finlandia University took a 2-0 first period lead and hung on to defeat the University of Minnesota, Crookston 3-1 today in Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association (MCHA) action at the Crookston Civic Arena.


The Lions opened the scoring 5:20 into the game when Joe Beaudry scored an unassisted, short-handed goal to put Finlandia up 1-0. The Lions increased their lead to 2-0 at 18:50 when Ross Rouleau scored an unassisted, even-strength goal.


After a scoreless second period, Finlandia took a 3-0 lead at 14:26 of the third period when Travis Hanson scored an even-strength goal. U of M, Crookston finally got on the board at 17:06 of the third period when Matt Waclawik (So, Fwd, Fergus Falls, Minn.) scored his second even-strength goal in as many days off an assist from Kirk Graham (Jr, Def, Brandon, Manitoba, Canada). Unfortunately, the Golden Eagles would not find the net again as Finlandia took the 3-1 victory.


The loss drops U of M, Crookston’s overall record to 5-18-0 and MCHA record to 4-14-0. Finlandia University improves their overall record to 14-7-2 and MCHA record to 13-5-0. The Golden Eagles will return to action on Friday, February 15 and Saturday, February 16 when they play host to Northland College to close out the regular season. The puck drops at 7:30 pm and 4:05 pm respectively at the Crookston Civic Arena.
