Outside Scholarships

These scholarships are usually awarded by organizations not directly affiliated with the University. Outside scholarships count toward meeting your financial need.

If you receive an outside scholarship that does not appear on your Financial Aid Award Notification, you must indicate the source of the award and the amount on your FAAN and return it to the Office of Admissions and Student Financial Aid. Federal regulations require that your aid package be adjusted to match your need if your total award plus your outside scholarship(s) exceeds your financial need.

If you receive an outside scholarship, ask the awarding organization to send the aid check (made payable to you and the University of Minnesota) to the Office of Admissions and Student Financial Aid. Organizations generally require full-time registration; however, check with the donor organization to be sure.

Agencies such as Job Training and Partnership Act (JTPA), Division of Vocational Rehabilitation, Job Services, etc., often award students a specific amount for Fall Semester. The Office of Admissions and Student Financial Aid will assume these funds will be received for the full academic year and will adjust a student’s eligibility accordingly.

If the funds are not received in subsequent terms contact the OSFA and another revision will be completed.
