UMC Writing Center
Welcome to the Writing Center at the University of Minnesota, Crookston!
The mission of the Writing Center is to assist UMC students with any aspect of academic writing, to deepen students' understanding of writing strategies, to sharpen their writing skills, and to make them better writers so that they can achieve their academic goals.
The Writing Center - a support program that facilitates writing projects - provides free tutorials to all students at UMC from all disciplines. Feel free to drop in to see a tutor if you:
- don't know how to get started with a class paper
- need help brainstorming
- are not sure what a thesis statement or topic sentence is like
- need writing strategies for a specific kind of audience
- want to know how to narrow down a research topic
- don't know how to find or evaluate sources
- are confused about citation styles
- need to practice a presentation or speech
- need peer feedback for a term paper
- don't know what your professor means when he/she says "dangling modifier"
- don't know what to include in a resume or cover letter
Location:
270 Owen Hall
Hours: The Writing Center will be closed between May 10 and August 26.
Monday - Thursday: 11 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. (Note: Closed 12:00 noon - 2:00 p.m. Thursdays)
Friday: 11:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Walk-in hours: (First come, first served.)
Important: Appointments are required although walk-in visits are always welcome
subject to tutor availability. Hours are for class days in the fall and spring semesters.
